This'll be my new Lolita based blog! I'll be posting information on purchases, sewing projects and my generally hilarious Lolita rampages through the great UP and beyond! And as most people should do, here's a little introduction of my Lolita self...

I've been interested in the Lolita fashion since about 2004-2005 the earliest I can remember. Although I've been dressed in crazy frills since I was a wee-little girl. I'm a natural born tom-boy but that doesn't stop my girly-side from coming out! I bought my first outfit while living in Japan during 2005-2006 for my sophomore year of University. My friends and I took a weekend trip to Tokyo and I bought an off-brand frilly 2-piece set for under $100 (with a free headdress thrown in for service!) at a lil shop hidden in Harajuku. I can probably take you to the exact shop since I remember seeing Body Line across the street through the 2nd story window!

That has been my only item up until recently in 2008, but I'll update with all those details in a separate post later. I came up with the name of this journal randomly while at work and thought it fit my personality pretty well. As much as I enjoy Lolita fashion and history, making fun of it every once and a while is always relaxing. Its fun to make jokes poked at yourself right? Not all the time, but we all need a good lil omake in our lives. So be sure to expect hilarious photos of me (and hopefully some locals as well) as we travel the great wilderness of the Upper Peninsula in frills and lace!

As a call out to possible future meet-ups, are there any Lolitas stationed in the UP, Michigan or local areas?

FEEDBACK

This is where people can post their feedback about me as a buyer/seller for future reference.

Feedback will mostly be directed from members of the LiveJournal EGL community and EGL Community Sales...

Current Order Statuses: #07

Order #07: Namidaichigo

Finally received my Baby the Stars Shine Bright fairy print skirt from her in the mail today! I finally have my first authentic brand item! I was so worried it might've gotten lost and that I may have to open up a PayPal claim, but I don't have to worry about it anymore! The skirt is a little wrinkled from the long shipping but it can easily be fixed. Came in an small Emily Temple Cute bag inside the packaging which was nice. The timeline for this order went as follows:

Paid: May 4th
Shipped: May 6th (LJ reply), she later confirmed May 9th
Received: May 29th

All in all it was 20 days shipping and almost a month since payment was sent. She sent me the tracking number after I asked her several different times, but it didn't work on any websites. Although that was a bit of a bother there were no serious complications in the end. Even with the shipping being so ambiguous the order went relatively smoothly I guess. I wasn't too worried since she had nothing but positive feedback for much larger orders than my own. Sadly I wasn't able to receive it in time for Anime North that was this past weekend or the family parties the weekend before that. I guess I'll just have to wear it to the Mackinac Island Lolita Meet-Up I'm trying to organize. Except I'm a little low on funds with all the planning for Anime North and all.

Tried on the skirt after opening the package and noticed there was a small built-in petticoat! A cute little fluff for a casual look and still should be ok over one of my larger petticoats. The waistband has a small elastic section in the back, but its still a little tight. If I cut the elastic then it would fit better but who wants to maul such a gorgeous brand item just because of my womanly curves!? Guess its time for me to work out again, heh. Even with the small complications of this order, I do recommend purchasing from her. This definetlly won't stop me from buying from her again in the future!

Lolita in Public #03-04: Anime North 2008

I didn't dress up or attend the small meet-up that was planned for Anime North 2008 on Friday. I spent all day driving and the 5 hour drive ended up taking 7 hours in the end. And we know that is so no rori. All I really did at the con that day was stand in line for about an hour or more waiting to pick up our badges. Oh yeah, that was a blast. Except for the fact I nearly fell asleep standing in line. Luckily the guy and girl who came with their guitars and small amps helped the wait go by with a little bit of entertainment haha. So here's the run down for the outfits I wore on Saturday and Sunday (pictures will be added later, sorry):

JSK - Fan+Friend Gingham Heart Pocket

Headbow - Gingham fabric from In The Starlight

Socks - white, EG ECO Comfort Top Knee High from Sock Dreams

Sock Toppers - homemade

Wrist Cuffs - homemade

Shoes - black, Mary Janes by American Eagle from Payless

Purse - offbrand small Panda face purse bought in Osaka

Bloomers - white, Anna House

Petticoat - black, In the Starlight

That's the outfit I wore at Anime North 2008 on Saturday. Wasn't really out in public too much wearing it. I temporarily changed out of it when my sister and I went to Boston Pizza to grab pizza takeout for lunch, because I didn't want to get it dirty. But later that night I wore it on the way back from the convention to the hotel, when we stopped at Boston Pizza again to get some pasta take out. We stood/sat in the waiting area for probably a little over 20 minutes like that, which wasn't nearly as awkward since there were a lot of Anime North cosplayers there too. Although my frills even got their attention when they came in too. I learned the joys of petticoats, they really take up some space when you're standing in a crowded area haha! And my shoes, I should really look into getting some nice gel inserts for them if I ever plan on walking about a mile from the hotel to the convention center next time. My little sister didn't dress up because she felt awkward (it was her first con after all) so I didn't stress it much. Except she did wear her Anna House blouse which got some people's attention. Even I had a number of people comment me on my dress while some asked to take my picture! That was really a surprise for me. The last thing I expected was someone to want to take a picture of me. I think I had 5 people ask to take my picture when I was at the con. Some even stopped me to ask where I got the JSK. It felt really nice to be complimented by strangers, although a little awkward at the same time. I had one artist in the Artists' Alley who asked to take my picture. He then showed me some of his artwork that was inspired by pictures of girls in "Lolita" he had taken. That was definetlly an interesting day for me haha!

SAMM

Skirt - homemade, fabric from Cia's Palette

Blouse - white, Anna House

Socks - white, EG ECO Comfort Top Knee High from Sock Dreams

Shoes - off white, offbrand flats from Meijer

Headbow - same fabric as skirt from In The Starlight

Purse - offbrand small tan satchel

Bloomer - white, In the Starlight

MAE

Sock Toppers - homemade

Wrist Cuffs - homemade

Skirt - homemade, fabric from Cia's Palette

Blouse - white, offbrand from DEB

Socks - white, EG ECO Comfort Top Knee High from Sock Dreams

Shoes - black, Mary Janes by American Eagle from Payless

Headbow - same fabric as skirt from In The Starlight

Purse - offbrand small Panda face purse bought in Osaka

Suitcase - offbrand from Michael's Craft Store

Bloomer - white, Anna House

That's the rundown for what my sister and I wore to Anime North 2008 on Sunday. My sister and I wore the matching (but different color) skirts I had made that made us look like twins. The yellow and white pattern I chose for my sister really fit her well I think! She looked so cute! I put my headbow on my ponytail that pulled back a bit of my hair (like I always do) to give it a classic feeling and I did my sisters headbow much like a head-eating bow on a headband. She looked adorable! But I think it might be a while before she wears Lolita like I do hehe. I had my black bolero too but it was so warm out that I ended up taking it off and putting it in my small suitcase with my change of clothes for the drive home. Wore the outfits until we got my waist-up commission (of me in Lolita) done by Kaze-Hime and the chibis (of me and my sister in matching Lolita) from MayumeUchiha. And yes, I got my sister to finally wear the Lolita skirt me and my friend had been slaving over for like the past month now. She wore it long enough to walk to the con, have MayumeUchiha take our picture and then she went in the bathroom and changed. Oh well, she wore it none the less. I wore mine for a bit longer until I was starting to get a little warm as well. So I eventually changed too; that and my feet were killing me.

I think the trip went great though! Although I missed out on the small meet-up Friday, the Lolita Panel on Saturday and then the Tea Party on Sunday... I missed out on a lot of fun. But I had to keep my sister in mind as well. Her health wasn't great and she was tired out easily so we didn't do much other then walk around Artists' Alley and the Dealer's Room for a while. Never any longer then a few hours max. Next year I'll be sure to go with a lot more friends who want to go and do other things. I can already picture them struggling to drag me away from the Artists' Alley, but I'm sure its for the best haha! Can't wait to go back and I apologize for not being able to see a lot of the EGL Lolitas there! It was going to be my first meet-up too. Guess I should start with something a little smaller and more local next time like Mackinac Island eh?

Lolita in Public #02: Grandparents' 50th Anniversary

JSK - Fan+Friend Gingham Heart Pocket

Headbow - Gingham fabric from In The Starlight

Socks - white, EG ECO Comfort Top Knee High from Sock Dreams

Sock Toppers - homemade

Bolero - black, offbrand from DEB

Shoes - black, Mary Janes by American Eagle from Payless

Purse - offbrand small Panda face purse bought in Osaka

Bloomers - white, Anna House

Again the outfit rundown to get a general idea of what I was wearing. No petticoat this time either because I wanted to keep it casual and not flaunty, since I was going to be going to my Grandparents' Church as well as a Country Club.

The reception of my ensamble at their Church went pretty well. Very small congregation and generally older, so many elderly ladies commented that I looked "so cute!" It felt nice to hear that. Then we went out to a few stores afterwards to try and find a Memories book for the Anniversary Party. At one point I went into Michael's wearing Lolita to try and find something there (no luck I might add). But I don't think many people recognized it was Lolita since it was a Sunday morning after church and I was with my Dad who was dressed up as well (not in Lolita though haha). Then we went to Country Club and were, of course, fashionably late. But not by too much. I had a few comments I think here but I wasn't feeling too good with the anxiety of being somewhere I don't know for a party. That's a story for another time.

But my Lolita #02 was a great time! I got to wear both of my outfits in 2 days time, which was great practice before I go to Anime North that is coming up next weekend! Made a few comments to my parents' on the ride home asking if I looked silly. They were mostly "supportive" but at the same time they commented that they didn't really understand the fashion or anything (yet) so they couldn't judge it really. But they said it looked very nice. Don't worry though... I'll convert them yet. Muahaha~

Lolita in Public #01: Sammi's 16th Birthday party

Sock Toppers - homemade, got garter fabric by the yard from JoAnn's

Skirt - homemade, got fabric from Cia's Palette

Blouse - white, offbrand from DEB

Bolero - black, offbrand from DEB

Socks - white knee-highs from Sock Dreams

Shoes - black Mary Janes by American Eagle from Payless

Headbow - same fabric as skirt from In The Starlight

Purse - offbrand small Panda face purse bought in Osaka

Bloomer - white, Anna House

First, outfit rundown so you can understand the comments and looks that are described next. Should be uploading a picture or two later if I can find good ones on my Dad's camera. If not, I'll just take a picture at a later date in the same outfit. All in all, it was a Classic Lolita look and not quite casual.

So today I wore my first real Lolita outfit out in public (and it's not Halloween either) and got some pretty good results! Family was very supportive and interested. I didn't talk much about it being Lolita because I really didn't want to discuss it at my little sister's 16th birthday party. And I don't think any of them really cared about the details. We went to Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth, Michigan for the party. As soon as we entered the lobby the hostess commented that she liked my socks. I figured it would go fairly well if the lady dressed in traditional Bavarian clothing was commenting on my outfit. So I'm happy I found a good place to try out my first Lolita outfit comfortably.

Walking up to the room we reserved for dinner I got a few looks, but mostly from the staff (of which are all required to wear the Bavarian clothing). I figured they were a little surprised I stood out more than they did haha! My family didn't find it too extreme and said I looked very cute. And then I mentioned that me and my friend made the skirt and they were all pretty surprised at that. They said we did a good job. But my Grandmothers really got a kick when my Dad told them I was wearing bloomers underneath. The only reason he knew was because that morning I lifted my skirt to show him that I was wearing bloomers incase my crappy stitch work, from the night before, came undone randomly as a safety precaution. So he made sure everyone knew. Except it was just my Grandparents who realized what he meant. And of course they immediately asked to lift up my skirt (to see my bloomers). And with that remark everyone at the table went a little silent and looked over. So I was too shy to show them because my little sisters had her boyfriends and friends in attendance. And we all know showing bloomers to non-family is so not rori.

While walking around the restaurant and parking lot I still got a few looks but no one who looked really "OMG What is she wearing!?" but more of "Oh wow, what's that?" I think. Either way I'm really happy with the results! I feel happy and comfortable, even though I don't like standing out too much but maybe I'm just a style-contradictory kind of person haha! Tomorrow I'll be wearing my Fan+Friend gingham heart pocket JSK with the black bolero over it. The bolero is really going to tone down the frills and all but its still going to be a bit more extreme then my normal clothing.

Most of the outfit I wore today I got the stuff yesterday at the mall here at my parents' house! I had an Anna House white blouse (that I sold in the last post) but it didn't fit me right. And there were no good blouses to use up in the UP so I had to cross my heart and hope I could find something down state before the party. I've read a lot of good comments about H&M and Forever21 stores but they're all a little bit further from where my parents live. Luckily, DEB came to the rescue! And when I stopped by JoAnn's I nearly had a seizure when I got in the door! I found so much fabric and lace I wanted to buy~ I've been surviving on a very stingy and limited selection at the Ben Franklin up by me. We had a JoAnn where I was living but they went out of business a few years ago. JoAnn's is almost the main reason that I don't mind living downstate after the fall semester haha! Either way, I found exactly what I needed and I was up until 4am this morning finishing up my skirt with really crappy stitchwork. Mostly because I found my parents' sewing machine but not the electrical cord... Figures. So hand stitching had to be my means of production. Luckily the skirt has such a nice flair now that you can't see the crappy stitchwork unless you pull at the seam, which is hard to find. I love improvising!~

Let's see how tomorrow goes with me wearing my JSK to church and my Grandparents' 50th Wedding Anniversary party... Oh boy.

EGL for Direct Sale #02: Anna House (L) white blouse *SOLD*

*SOLD*
to Lolitahime

<strike>I've realized no matter how much I try on my blouse</strike><strike>, it just doesn't seem to fit me right. I asked if they could use some of my fabric to make the headbows so that they would match the skirts I'm making which they agreed. Although my fabric is a bit stiff so they lay a little weird, but nothing a few safety pins can't help. I was kinda dissappointed that I had to pay full price for the headbands after mailing the fabric to them so that was a bit of a downside to the order. But all four headbands came in working order and the packaging wasn't bad. It was shipped in a box with the headbands wrapped in tissue paper. No damage from shipping so all safe there. Timeline went as follows:

April 21st - Order confirmed
April 23rd - Fabric shipped (from me)
April 24th - Payment received (by them)
April 27th - Fabric received (by them)
May 7th - Order shipped (to me)
May 12th - Order arrived

They were kind enough to even do a little edit to the bows for me. I originally asked if they could possible sew button-snaps onto the bottom of the bow and to the headband so that I could easily detach and use the bows on something else. Instead they replied saying they would try but weren't too sure. I understood and said that if they preferred not to do that then it was fine. They instead used a form of Velcro to do the same thing I was thinking in a way. So it turned out even better! Now I can easily attach the bows to a comb, ribbon, dress or hair tie if I want! I have nothing against Alice bows but sometimes my head hurts from the headbands after a while. Their service and craftswomanship was great and they did a great job at understanding what I was trying to do with the bows. My first order with In The Starlight came out 100% satisfactory! I'll definetlly be working with them again in the future.

All I have to receive now is my red Baby the Stars Shine Bright fairy print skirt from Namidaichigo. Wonderful packing and service yet again! Not that it wasn't expected of course. I left a response in their "additional comment" section when I made the order about how fast their service was before and that I had to order more fabric because I didn't have enough. And they responded to me in an email saying they were glad I was happy with the fabric and look forward to future purchases with me. I'd have to say that was very nice service and response to such a cracked up little random comment I made haha! It felt nice though. And that's what matters most. Timeline for this order went as follows:

May 7th - Order placed and paid
May 7th - Order shipped
May 10th - Order received

I was very happy with the packaging and fast shipping yet again. They always fold the fabric neatly and place a very nice band around it before placing it into a plastic bag inside the priority mail envelope. This time I did find a small tear in the envelope along the side mostly likely received during transportation but the inside plastic bag was strong enough to not tear and kept my fabric safe. And that is the reason why I keep buying from them. Impeccable customer service and shipping. Another 100% satisfactory result!

Current Order Statuses: #06

Order #06: Sock Dreams

Got my order in the mail today (May 9th) and really loved the socks I got! I ordered EG ECO Comfort Top Knee High socks, 2 white and one burgundy made with recycled yarn. And I quickly tried one on and was very pleased with the feel and how they fit! I was afraid they might be a bit tight around my calves (most socks tend to stretch a little and fall down later) but they were soft all around and looked great! I couldn't be any happier with their service and socks! Very fast too! This is the timeline:

May 4th - Ordered and paid
May 5th - Shipped
May 9th - Received

I haven't been able to give the socks a full test run but I doubt I'll have any problems. I really like how they're made from recycled yarn as well. Very eco friendly as well as super soft. And I'm a little anxious to get my Baby the Stars Shine Bright fairy print red skirt in the mail to see how my burgundy socks will look with it though. But it shouldn't be too bad since its better to have a burgundy color sock than a bright red sock, right? Anyway, my service with Sock Dreams is rated 100% satisfactory! I definetlly plan to order socks from them in the future...

Current Order Statuses: #04

Order #04: Modernbombshell

Well I received my order today! I bought her In The Starlight petticoats (one long black, one normal white) and white eyelet bloomers from her. Shipped in a box with minimal damage to it. Might've felt a little safer if they were inside a ziploc bag or at least a plastic bag but they arrived in perfect order either way. I had to straighten out the petticoats so they were fluffy again but no big problem there. The normal white princess petticoat seems a little flat but if I double it with my Rakuen petticoat (that I'm going to give to my lil sister) then its not too bad. Then again I could just add some more layers myself if I need to, but I'll have to try it on with my Baby the Stars Shine Bright fairy print skirt when it arrives to see for sure.

I was kinda shocked when I put on the longer black princess petticoat; it's a lot fluffier then the white princess petticoat. And it wasn't too bad under my F+F Gingham heart pocket JSK, but the length seemed a little weird. So I'm going to trim off a couple inches so that it'll be the same length as the normal petticoat. Took a while to get here (after having a small scare session when the tracking had my packaged going to places and back to the original place it was mailed from lol) but it arrived in time for my event and everything seems to fit perfectly. So again another great purchase with only good things to say about Modernbombshell! Satisfaction at 100%!

Current Order Statuses: #06-08; DIY: #01-02

Order #06: In The Starlight

Well, I haven't heard about them mailing my 4 headbows yet. And they're on vacation until the 10th. I hope they're able to mail it in time, they said they could/would make it but still... I'm getting a lil nervous. What if they forgot? I know they got my fabric, they told me. I just hope its soon, I really want to see how they look and how they feel. I'm not very gifted when it comes to headbands because it gives me a headache. People say I just need to wear them more often, but I think I have a larger head like my Mom so we both have a hard time with "normal" sized hats and stuff. If it comes down to the wire, I'll have plenty of left over fabric to make a quick headbow for AN I guess.

Order #07: Namidaichigo

Asked Namidaichigo if she was able to mail the skirt yet and she said she has. I haven't received a tracking number from her yet but the time difference is a bit of a pain. From her past feedback most people get the packages pretty quick (in like 5 days) so hopefully it'll get here before I head downstate for my lil Sister's and Grandparent's parties. I want to wear it to one of the parties that's happening in a 2 day time period. its going to be a busy month of May that's for sure. And as soon as the skirt arrives I'm going to go to Ben Franklin's to buy a bit of matching red fabric to make a headbow to match, I could just use my leftover white fabric I guess. We'll have to see how well the stuff I have goes together and what would look best with it.

Order #08: Cia's Palette

Re-Ordered another 3 yards of each of the fabric I bought last month from Cia's Palette. Most of the details as to why is mentioned in my DIY #01 update below. Needless to say I need to go over my sewing basics before I ever do something like this again. Or at least not when I have a deadline so close. I sent the order early morning of May 7th, and if its anything like the last order it should be here in about 5 days max hopefully. Good thing Minneapolis is so close to me!

Do It Yourself #01: Skirt

Well, I went to cut out my fabric today and realized, I don't have enough (strike number 2). So I ordered another 3 yards of the same fabrics I got online to make sure the skirts turn out perfect. I really don't want to do a 3 tier skirt using this fabric pattern. It would look just a little off IMO. But my friend said if I can cut the fabric out, she'll sew it together for me in time for my trip downstate. Saved by my friend M's amazing sewing skills! I'm still excited though, even if I am a little let down that I couldn't make them myself. I'd prefer to do it when I don't have to worry about making mistakes or reaching a deadline though.

Do It Yourself #02: Shoes

Went out this afternoon and bought a pair of nice brown shoes from the local Thrift Store. And for only $2.34! Then stopped at Michael's <strike>and wandered around for a couple hours haha</strike> to get some Design Master ColorTool Floral Spray in Flat White and a small can of spray on craft sealer in a non-glossy finish. I don't want shiny white shoes, I think it would look weird. Also grabbed a sanding sponge for the shoes, a $1.99 mini hot-glue gun, safety pins, small fake flowers and some hair combs to make a hair corsage. Not all of which are for the shoes but other possible DIY accessories. I need to go to Ben Franklin to grab some snap-buttons though and to the local Salvation Army to check if they have another other shoes too (2 pairs can't hurt).

Current Order Statuses: #04, 06; DIY #01-02

Order #04: Modernbombshell

After having a mini nervous attack from stalking my package's tracking page, its finally been updated and is now in Minnesota! Of course after asking Modernbombshell what form of shipping she used so I could estimate when the package should arrive. So it should probably arrive here Wednesday or Thursday (I wish today). I'll update with my order details on that when the package arrives... And I'm done trying on my petticoats with my JSK, haha.

Order #06: Sock Dreams

Checked the package status and its left Portland and should be here in a few short days! I'm eager to try on the socks. They look so soft and comfy~ Yeah. That's about it for that order. But they're socks! You have to update when you find info about your sock package! Its like the littlest detail in a Lolita's closet but probably the most important. Not to mention they're surprisingly pricey for being socks, but lace makes a big difference to anything its put on.

Do It Yourself #01: Skirt #01

It was a dud. Looked good until I put it on with my bloomers and sister's little petticoat. Then I realized my horrid mistake. Did I ever mention that I learn things the hard way... All the time? Well, now you know. But luckily its fabric that I got locally so I can easily go back and get more to do it again. Although it was kinda pricy ($8.99 a yard, ouch) but its better than destroying the fabric I got online and would have to wait days to get more. Yeah, I learned my lesson. No more flat rectangle shapes for my skirt. It made me look like I was wearing a tube for a skirt. So not rori.

Note to self:
RECTANGLE = TUBE SKIRT.
ANGLES = FLAIR.

I'm going over to my friend M's house to work on my other skirts in the afternoon. I was able to get up enough courage to ask my roommates though to borrow their sewing machine today. I didn't want to bother them at first and was afraid of breaking it when they're not around. But I really wanted to get to work on them since I'm heading downstate next weekend. Luckily it went great. Took me about 5 minutes for all my childhood sewing skills my Grammie taught me to come back, and it didn't turn out that horrible. Until I put the skirt on... Heh. And that's when the internet came to my rescue! And I found out that I should've used the patterns I found as a reference first instead of making my own thinking it was the same. Oh well, lesson learned. But I'm still excited to make the other two now.

Do It Yourself #02: White Lolita Shoes

I'm a poor college student (who spent way too much in the past month as it is) so I have to resort to home-made white Lolita shoes. I came cross the idea of spray painting shoes on my own and did some internet searching and found some mixed reviews on the procedures. Some said that the paint cracked, others said bleeding and some said it was fine. I have those nice American Eagle Mary Jane Pumps in black that I wear, and thought they might look nice in white as well... But I was kinda leery about buying brand new shoes (regardless them being only $20) and destroying them only to find out that its another failed attempt. Luckily, I found some nice DIY instructions for shoes using Flower Spray and spray on Craft Sealer (looks like another trip to Michael's). So when I wake up I'll be going to local Thrift Shops to see if they have better/cheaper Mary Janes for my Lolita vision. It has my 2 petticoats and a pair of bloomers for my little sister. I understand it takes things a while but when you're stalking the tracking page its not a good sign haha! Normally I'm patient and just excited, but the reason I'm nervous is because the tracking listed the package as follows:

..........April 23rd - Electronic shipping info received
..........April 26th - Processed in California
..........April 27th - Processed in Arizona
..........April 29th - Processed in California (the same place)

And I haven't heard anything since. Normally my packages aren't updated in tracking very often (if at all, like the last package) which is understandable, but I just don't want to find out that my package got lost. Its not a relief to see your package bouncing back and forth and then no news. I doubt anyone would want my petticoat or bloomers, but one can't help but be a little anxious, specially since another package has already arrived safely. I still have to make sure the petticoats will work with my clothes too. Ah well, whatever happens, happens for a reason.

Order #06: Sock Dreams

Sent my order to Sock Dreams early this morning (ie: 3am?) so that will hopefully be shipped out tomorrow. They should arrive in about 5 days as well because I purchased the faster shipping with signature required (for an extra buck why not be safe). So I bought 2 white pairs and a burgundy pair of EG ECO Comfort Top Knee High socks! They look Lolita-able so I hope they'll be nice. They look smooth and comfortable and that's all that really matters to me (that and not buying cheap knee highs from Walmart). I'll make some lace sock toppers for them once they arrive. The burgundy pair I bought to go with my skirt I just got which you can read about in Order #07. I hope the socks and skirt match. According to the website picture they're pretty close so I'm not too nervous. Even if the reds are a little off, it shouldn't be much of a problem since neither is a crazy neon-red color.

I'm really quite surprised how hard it was for me to find plain white knee high socks locally. I checked all the general retail stores, the mall, everywhere except Walmart. I refuse to shop there. I've seen the Walmart "movie" and heard some personal stories from friends who had family working there, and my opinion is that I will never give them my business again. If I can only find it there, then I don't need it at all. But that's off the Lolita topic of my blog, and I don't wanna turn it into a rant so I'll end that topic there. Still, I couldn't find any nice knee high white socks anywhere! I found a pair maybe that could have been my last resort but I really didn't want to do that. I was even thinking I could find some socks when I go downstate to visit my family, but if I didn't find any while I was there then I was doomed for Anime North later this month. I've been stalking the Sock Dreams website for a month or more now trying to decide on the right sock. Most of them didn't offer white or were sold out but luckily I found the EG ECO Comfort Top ones. I just hope they are as nice as I'm imaging they will be. But I've only heard good things about their socks and service so I'm not that worried... Or should I?

Order #07: Namidaichigo

Just bought a Baby the Stars Shine Bright "Angelic" (it should be "Faerie" I believe) print skirt! I'm so excited! Its going to be my first brand item ever! Well, Japanese Lolita brand item at least. I doubt Anna House and Fan+Friend is technically considered brand, although their quality and prices are exceptionally accessible by the general public. But still I'm so excited! Hopefully she'll ship it out tomorrow from Hong Kong and it'll arrive here in time for my little sister's 16th family birthday party. I really want to wear it to the dinner. And the sooner it arrives, the faster I can go out and buy red fabric to match and make a red headbow to wear with it. Or a headdress, whichever I feel like wearing that day. And I've only read good reviews on the seller so I'm eager to add to that list of positive responses. I did try to find stock photos of the skirt but its proving difficult. I might do a stock photo request on EGL later, but first I'll wait for it to arrive.

Do It Yourself #01: Skirts

I'll probably update this later with a scan of my procedure sketches but for now I'm too lazy haha! I'll hopefully start by cutting out fabric and stuff on Monday and do major sewing on Tuesday at my friend's house hopefully if I'm too chicken to ask my roommates to borrow theirs. I'm just going to make a few basic elastic waist skirts out of some nice fabric I bought earlier. I sent pieces of the same fabric to In the Starlight to make matching headbows for the skirts I'm making myself. I'm excited to see how they turn out but at the same time I'm a little nervous if I'll be able to do it. Oh well, hopefully I'll get compliments on them and be proud enough to say I made them myself haha!

Current Order Statuses: #02

Order #02: Anna House

Received my Anna House package today. I ordered the button up front blouse for myself and the romantic tie top blouse for my younger sister, both of them in white. And I also got my white short bloomers for myself.

Service was fast online and package was sent almost instantly after I paid. Kinda surprised me because it didn't say the size Large blouse was in stock on the website. But its not like I didn't want it sooner haha! Although I have to admit the packaging for the items was scary in how insecure it was. It was in a large brown envelope with the string you wrap around two knobs. It wasn't even tapped shut! Luckily all my contents were still inside, but there was no way of knowing if anyone had opened it and looked at my things. Then again, who in their right mind would want frilly bloomers and blouses out here in the Lolita wilderness? Oh yeah, me.

Now the trying on part is what I'll review on next. I tried on my little sister's blouse just to see how different the Medium is from the Large. And to see if I even like the romantic tie top blouse styles. It wasn't so bad, and the bust was actually a decent fit for me. But the arm elastics were tight as well as being difficult to bring my arms up. (Note to self: stick with Large) The romantic tie top blouse had a pin-on bow, which is nice because I'm not sure if my sister is a fan of bows on the blouse. She might prefer it on the back of her skirt or in her hair, so that was a nice detail for me (other people aren't too fond of that but to each their own). Didn't realize until I was taking it off that there was a hidden zipper in the side, which made it easier to adjust the back lacing as well. And the added shirring in the back with the lace was also nice, for how much my sister might grow.

When I tried on my blouse it fit fairly well. Bust was a tad snug but I didn't feel like I'd pop a button off. The only thing that bothered me with my button up front blouse was the lace. Beautiful lace trim down the front, but some would flip up when I was wearing it. Although that might look a little off it still fits fine. The elastic in the arms were perfect and didn't really grip much, but still had the poof/clean sleeves look. And again I'm a sucker for lacing up the back. So it could go smaller or larger depending. The lace ruffles at the bottom of the blouse weren't as nice as the ones at the bottom of the romantic tie top blouse, but it might be better that way since I prefer Classic Lolita styles.

The bloomers I got fit perfectly. I was a little nervous when I noticed how see-through they were, but then again I don't plan on wearing them with black underwear or allowing my dress to go up far enough to expose them on purpose. The lace trim on the bottom was stretchy and very soft. Didn't scratch or tickle at all! I'm really quite excited to wear them now, which is nice because I normally wear black spandex shorts underneath all my skirts/dresses. So the bloomers were an excellent last-minute add to the order!

Besides the weird packaging choice, the service and items were all correct in size. Service rated at 95% because of the envelope choice.

Anime North 2008: Tickets

Ok, I've officially purchased my Anime North badges for me and my little sister! I ordered a used Rakuen petticoat and a set of In the Starlight detachable sleeves. Items were sent in a shoe box and still in great condition by the time it reached me, which is good to know that it wasn't destroyed by the mail carriers. Petticoat is exactly as described, including the tear she made in order to add some more elastic to the waistband. Looks like it'll give very little fluff from what I can tell, but that should be perfect. And the detachable sleeves are also as described and pictured. A little bit longer than I had expected but not a big problem because I'll be giving it to my little sister as part of her birthday present. Both items are for my younger sister who is a beginning Lolita fan, so these will be a perfect starting point for her wardrobe. I give the order 100% satisfaction!

Current Wardrobe & My Wish List

Thought I should get my Lolita wants listed instead of random pictures in a folder on my computer. So I made a list of all the items I have or should be getting soon at the side of my journal in "My Lolita Closet" and underneath is "My Wish List." Many of the items are duplicates of other items such as Mary Magdalene dresses that Fan+Friend does replicas of, in which case I listed both items. I even listed lace topped socks on there several times depending on brands. It looks like a long list, but its not in reality. Just a large variety of things, colors and brands to keep an eye out for. I didn't touch on sizes next to them because I myself am not sure how each brand does on sizes and how much each garment would give, so I left that open. Besides, you never know how much weight you'll gain/lose by the time you can afford or find that specific garment haha!

Victorian/Vintage Suitcases

I found some cute vintage-like suitcases when I was walking around Michael's Craft Store recently. And after posting about it on EGL, I heard a lot of people mentioning about how the suitcases would look good for Steampunk Lolitas. I personally liked them for the Classic Lolitas styles as well. Specially since my style trademark is that of a traveling lolita. So I got these suitcases more for a handbag than actual luggage. I have too much stuff to use these as actual luggage...

For those of you who are interested in the suitcases, here are some pictures! But first things first, THEY ARE ON SALE! (at least at my Michael's) So go out and get them now before the sales over, they're 50% off!

Medium Suitcase: $20 ($10 after the sale!)
Large Suitcase: $25 ($12.50 after the sale!)
Medium Flower case: $6 (not on sale)
Large Flower case: $8 (not on sale)

While walking around the Home Decor section, I went into this Lolita mode like nothing I've experienced before. Everything I saw I thought "Hmm, this would work well for Sailor Lolitas. And that would work well for Country Lolitas." But there were a lot of great things! A lot of bright pastels with Victorian cupids designs on them for the Sweet/Shiro/Hime Lolitas, sea and boat themed stuff for the Sailor Lolitas, neutral Victorian styles for the Classic Lolitas, flower and rooster patterns for the Country Lolitas and darker stuff for the Gothic Lolitas! I felt like I found some hidden Lolita treasure or something! And, being as easily excitable as I am, I just HAD to share! Sorry I wasn't able to take picture of the stuff in the store for you too but trust me, its awesome.

Seriously guys, I would've gone on a shopping spree to decorate my bedroom, but no amount of stuff will make my room become Victorian. If you can't tell in my pictures, I have wood paneled walls and a hardwood floor with a wood door. Luckily I have a white ceiling but it looks yellow with all the wood.

To save the post of a horrible backlog of "larger-than-my-computer-screen" images, I'm putting the small thumbnails up. So click for the full-size large image to see the details!

The full display of all the suitcases I bought...

The vintage suitcases closed. I saw them and went "Oh! Pretty! Perfect for a Sweet/Classic/Country Lolita!" And I immediately though ahead to the meet-up I want to have on Mackinac Island this June during the Lilac Festival. Sadly, none had any lilac themes.

Along with these were some other designs that had golden handles, but I didn't like them as much as these (silver is my choice color for accessory). These are also not so sturdy, more of a thick cardboard/paper like case. So not something you want to carry a drink in or anything soggy >>; But these are still great for little things when you go out!

The two I bought (large, medium)

Interior (large, medium)

Closure detail (large, medium)

Interior size (large, medium)

Stacked

Got home and found out that in my large suitcase (non-cardboard one) that there was another medium light-toned suitcase inside that I didn't get charged for. And being the good person that I try to be, I'm taking it back tomorrow before work. I don't really need 2 of the medium light-toned ones anyway.

Traveling with suitcases is so rori~!

Current Order Statuses #02, 04-06; DS #01

Order #02: Anna House

Just got my email (literally a half-hour ago) saying my order has been shipped. I'm making skirts for me and my sister, but I couldn't find any lace locally that fit my idea for the headbows. They replied saying they could and the size of fabric they needed me to send. The email replies are coming about the same time each night, but even if I email them moments after I get the reply I won't hear from them again until about the same time the next day. At first that would be rather annoying specially when you have a deadline, but I know they're very busy right now.

They had to close the custom order option because they were so many. That and I've been told they're really bogged down with emails coming in about cons that are currently going on. I've also noticed that they participated in the Lolita Fashion Show at New York Comicon, so that would make a lot of sense as well. I'm just worried that the delay in our replies to each other is cutting time close in shipping the fabric, making the headbows and then shipping them back. But they said they could have it done by May 15th if I shipped the fabric soon enough. Although it took another email for them to tell me the address of where to send it, otherwise I would've sent it out yesterday.

Another thing that (was mostly my fault) kept our email tag going longer then was needed was that I didn't want the bow attached to the headband. I used to wear headbands a lot when I was younger but they've always given me headaches and sores behind my ears. So I asked if they could just slide the headband through the bow's knot instead, that way I could take it off and attach a ribbon to it instead if I wanted. I even came up with the idea of attaching a snap to the bow and then the headband so that they could easily come apart and attach to something else. I've seen the BTSSB hairbows on combs and though that might be pretty nice as well. Maybe putting a clip on a hair tie or barrette so that I could do all kinds of hairstyles with it instead of just a headband. They said they normally stitch them to the headbands but they'll try to do a snap on them for me. I was quite excited! I said that if the idea works out well then they're welcome to use my idea for their store, since I don't have the capabilities to put the idea to real use.

Either way, I hope all of this ends with a set of matching headbows to squeal over at Anime Expo (I'll be a walking advertisement for them and the new idea).

EGL Direct Sale #01: Little_Dende

I shipped out the package Tuesday at noon using Priority Mail International flat-rate box, so she should be receiving it in 6-10 days. It feels good to see an old dress I loved go to a new home where it'll be treated well.

EGL for Direct Sale #01: Off Brand set *SOLD*

* SOLD *

<strike>I'm selling this mostly because I just don't wear it anymore. It was perfect for my first Lolita dress, but now I know what I really want. I've gotten a lot of comments/compliments on it over the years (the few times I did wear it haha) but I've realized that although I love black and white, I'm more into the classic style instead of gothic. I love to wear all the styles, but I think I've decided on classic as my #1 for now. I'd be willing to trade if someone preferred that as well (doubtful, but you never know)

Purchased this in a small shop in Harajuku District of Tokyo, Japan in November of 2005! I was living in Japan at the time while attending University. My friends and I took a weekend trip to Tokyo and that's how I got this dress. The store I bought this from is actually across from BodyLine's shop there too! I decided to buy this instead of something from BodyLine because it was a bit more expensive and didn't want to spend too much on my first dress. (I bought enough stuff in Akihabara too lol)

SELLING:
* Offbrand Black and White separate set
- matches the Cosmate's dress sizes and information
- ML on tag (view measurements at the link given above)
- I'm a 36 bust and fits nicely! Waist on the skirt is no problem because of the elastic band too.
- Like new, worn only a few times! Little to no movement each time lol

Includes:
- Blouse top (buttons up the front with ribbon ties)
- Skirt bottom (elastic waist, no petticoat needed!)
- Neck collar (detachable via 2 inconspicuous buttons)
- Black Headdress (freebie!)

Was asking $100 OBO plus shipping but now ANY AND ALL OFFERS ARE BEING CONSIDERED! IT NEEDS A HOME ASAP.

NOTE: I have a dog, if you have allergies please take this into consideration. Its not like I let him sleep on it and I do keep the dress away from him and any dander, but just so people know. Also comes from a smoke-free home...

To save from posting 50 or so images I just took of the details, view the SLIDESHOW here, you can view the gallery for the set here as well...

P.S. Password to view gallery is "iamloved"
P.S.S. A lot sooner than originally planned as well, not that I mind... Dress was neatly packed in a large envelope with little to no damage to the packaging and included my free headdress. The JSK came out a little longer than I expected but it ends at just about my knees or so. Its weird only because I've never had skirts that long before in a while. But its also good because I've come to realize I prefer to wear the classic Lolita style more than anything. And I originally asked for a headbow and not a headdress but that's just fine, I'll add more lace and some ribbon to the plain headdress later. Not a lot of good pictures yet of me wearing it since I don't have anyone around to take pictures for me or a real petticoat yet. I had to resort to my reflection in my very slim full-length mirror, and my bedroom has wood panel walls and a hardwood floor so all my pictures come out with a warm wood tint.

My Fan + Friend service was an excellent 100% satisfactory! I've heard some people getting some horrible items from them but we're all human and no one's perfect. But I will definetlly be purchasing from them in the future. There was at one point though where I found a ribbon that appeared to have perhaps come undone. Luckily it turned out it was easy to fix and that the seam on the end holding that ribbon had missed but was easy to take care of. So although I had that little mishap, I've found little to nothing to complain about. The pockets on my JSK are real and can be used, which will come in very handy. I'll probably wear this with my small Panda bag I purchased in Osaka as the purse for this outfit to my Grandparent's 50th Wedding Anniversary party this May as well as to Anime North.

Order #02: Anna House

The group order with Aisfor I was taking part in had to be canceled. The person setting up the order had some PayPal issues and had to issue refunds and direct people to her husband's account if they still wished to follow through with the group order. I was afraid the blouses wouldn't arrive in time for Anime North I'm attending May 23-25th, so I decided to contact Anna House directly for my order. So my order to Anna House still has the same blouses but I decided to add one bloomer as well. I figured it would be safer than trying to make one just yet. Total was $117 including shipping and PayPal fees. A little higher than I wanted, but its still a lot cheaper than buying 2 brand blouses which are usually $120 a piece!

Although there was that problem with the order, the person setting it up was very nice and sincere in the dilemma and even offered to assist me with any questions with my order for Anna House. I look forward to working with her in the future still and recommend her to people who may share future interests with her. Again, everyone's human and no one's perfect. You just got to keep being optimistic and look on the bright side of things.

Order #04: Modernbombshell @ EGL Purchase

Bought a white Princess petticoat, longer black Princess petticoat and white Eyelet bloomers (all In The Starlight brand) from Modernbombshell who's trying to dwindle down her Lolita collection as she "slowly grows out of it." I was looking to either make or buy a petticoat for me and my sister but they're so expensive and I've never made one before so I was hopeful to find something before it was too late. She will be shipping out my items on Monday, so details upon the items and service will come later for this order. Total was $65 with shipping included, not bad since each petticoat is about $40 a piece and the eyelet bloomers are $22 brand new!

Order #05: Sleepingapple @ EGL Purchase

Bought another white petticoat (Rakuen brand) and detachable sleeves (In The Starlight) from Sleepingapple as well. I think the detachable sleeves should turn out pretty nice under either my sister's blouse or mine, and the petticoat would be perfect for my little sister to start off her collection with. Should be shipping them out around Tuesday, so again more information on that later. Total came to $27 with shipping included, which isn't too bad at all!

Current Order Statuses #01-03

Here's the status and list of orders I am currently waiting for...

Order #01: Fan+Friend

My Fan+Friend special commission dress was ordered and confirmed for production on March 31st, 2008. The people who I've been passing emails and questions to have been very helpful and excellent! I received confirmation on April 10th, 2008 that my order had been shipped, and it hasn't even been 2 weeks! Its scheduled to arrive here on April 14th, 2008 according to the tracking estimate. So far my rating for them is at 100%! All that really matters now is the fit of the dress, but I'm not worried since I've only heard good things about them.

Order #02: Anna House

Paid for my part of the group order that's going on in the EGL LJ community for Anna House. The order was sent around April 6th, 2008 and I ordered 2 blouses from AH. One white blouse for myself and one white blouse for my little sister. Wait should be a month or so for production and shipment to me but it should arrive safely before Anime North I expect.

Order #03: Cia's Palette

Well recently I had ordered my fabric that I was going to make the matching skirts for me and my little sister to wear to Anime North 2008 in Toronto, Canada. And was really quite surprised by the speed and quality of the fabric I ordered online! I ordered it April 4th, 2008 (confirmation of order) and it was shipped April 6th. I got the fabric in the mail on April 7th, 2008. Now that's fast! Then again it was coming from Minnesota but still! Holy wha eh!? The fabric was exactly like pictured on the website and very nicely packed. Service was 100% satisfactory!

All that's left for me to do is go out and buy lace, socks, ribbon and the music note fabric (from a fabric store near me) and I can get started on making the skirts and matching accessories from the fabric. Just gotta get this all done by the middle of May... Wish me luck!

Pictures of me in my Fan+Friend JSK will be uploaded hopefully seconds after it arrives on my doorstep.
